3 Tips for Using Social Media in Crisis

It’s a weird time. We are being forced to make major adjustments in our daily lives with the coronavirus keeping us quarantined. It’s especially stressful if you’re a business owner. You may be asking yourself what you can do to establish some normalcy--to care for your clients and customers--in this uncertain time.

As social distancing keeps us physically apart, businesses are moving quickly to utilize technology to stay connected. Now is the time to think big picture; to showcase your business’s mission and values--to be who you are.

#1: Connect with Community

The first place to start is with the community. What problems have arisen locally that your business can solve? Some businesses are adapting by reimagining their delivery methods. Restaurants are moving to grab-and-go, delivery or drive-up service. Netflix has even created an option allowing customers to watch movies and TV shows remotely with friends.

We need each other. How can you show up virtually in your community?

#2: Communicate to Clients and Customers

What are your clients and customers struggling with? In times of crisis, you want your customers to think of your business as not just an answer to their needs, but a source of hope for the future.

Now is the time to put online strategies in motion. Be a virtual presence and communicate often with blog posts or videos sharing resources. Embrace the humanity of your business with the art of storytelling; collect testimonials to remind yourself, potential clients and new customers why you do what you do.

#3: Live Your Brand

Lastly, revisit your mission and values; take time for yourself to step into your vision. Why did you start your business in the first place? How will you continue to incorporate virtual connections when the crisis has ended?

Don’t stop social media when life begins to normalize. Create a plan to live your brand online.
